In Høgtun students apply to three courses and one trip – a main course (2,5 days a week), a plus course fall (1,5 days a week before Christmas) and a plus course spring (1,5 days a week after Christmas). One of the plus courses – fall and spring – is called “Elective mix” and actually is just a mix of smaller subjects of 2 or 3 hours a week that students choose after they arrive at school in August.
As an international student taking the course “Learning Norwegian” is mandatory. The teaching in the Learning Norwegian partly overlap with the teaching in the plus courses. Therefor international students do not get to choose plus course fall. (You will still be able to join a couple of the elective subjects. In other words you are in practice combining Learning Norwegian with parts of what we call “Elective mix” as plus course fall-)
In the spring the schedule will be the same, and combining Elective mix with Learning Norwegian is what most international students do.
However – out of experience we know that the plus courses “Backcountry skiing” and “Cross country skiing” is tempting to some international students.
The teaching in “Learning Norwegian” and “Plus course spring” still overlap so students that select anything other than “elective mix” will miss out on about 40 % of the “Learning Norwegian” lessons.
