FAQs

We will on this page try to answer frequently asked questions from international students

  • Can I bring my parents to the opening ceremony, and how do they arrange accommodation?

Your parents are welcome. We have a few spare rooms, and we do reserve them for parents of international students – so if you tell us in advance they can stay at the school at no extra cost.
  • I have some questions about what to bring. Do you have a packing list in English?

We do not have English packing list in all courses, but we normally speak to every international student in advance where we go through what to bring. Please call Einar – the deputy head teacher – at +47 909 68 736 and he will go through you list with you.
  • Do I need to bring sheets?

No, International students can borrow sheets.
  • What things do I need to bring?

We normally want to speak to all the international students before they arrive, and one of the things is to explain what personal equipment is needed for each main course.
  • Students from different countries and Visas

Høgtun accept students from any country, but there are different procedures for students from different countries. I will here give an explanation. Most students have to pay a guarantee sum before applying for the VISA

    • EU/EØS
Students from EU/EØS does not need to apply for the VISA, so no guarantee-sum needed.

    • VISA-free countries
Students from countries that could go to Norway on holidays for three months on tourist-visa without applying before entry does still have to apply for a student visa before entry. They need to pay the guarantee-sum before applying, but they will get av visa (but only for one year – they can not apply for a second year at folk high school).

On this background – Høgtun will not accept students from red group, and not students from orange group that have not been to then Schengen area before. The reason is that is is no point since the Visa will be declined anyway. It will only be waist of time and resources from
the applicant to go through the prosess.
