This is Alpine Adventure, the course for those of you who want spectacular nature experiences in the best of Norwegian scenery! Høgtun Folk High School is located perfectly with majestic mountains and pinnacles of world class just around the corner. We use the mountain as classroom and end the year with Basecamp Sundalsfjella/Romsdalsalpene – a four day summit camp on skis.
You do not need any previous knowledge to go in this course, you will get experience and knowledge through what we are doing, but you should be positive about moving in the mountain and testing your limits in steep terrain. The autumn offers peak hikes, climbing both inside and outside, and mountaineering with rope and natural ledges. In winter and spring is it focused on skiing, both in ski lifts and in the mountains. We are on the hunt for the good and safe snow and amazing skiing experiences. You will get good training in Telemark or alpine skiing/randonee and avalanche assessment, an introduction in ice climbing, and kiting in the snow. In addition to getting unforgettable experiences, you will get good knowledge on smart and safe travel in the mountain. There will be a big focus on trip planning, group dynamic, orientation, terrain assessment, and avalanche theory. You will also get the opportunity to take “Brattkort” with is a proof that you have completed the basic safety course in climbing.
At Høgtun you can make many combinations in classes and courses. You choose the «plus course» or elective subjects, and school trips in addition to your main course. If you want more downhill skiing and mountains, you can add the «Ski touring Telemark Alpine» in the spring. The school has great facilities for sports, music, and various creative activities. Choosing Outdoor Alpine still gives you the possibility to choose among a lot of other things!
Look forward to:
This course is one of the 10 main courses provided at Høgtun and runs normally from Wednesday after lunch through to the rest of the week. As an international student, you will have to take the Learning Norwegian course as well. You will normally have Learning Norwegian before lunch Monday through Wednesday. After lunch Monday and Tuesday you get to choose optional subjects described in the courses and trips section.
Some main courses have their own trips with the class in addition to this. (Horse, Powder, Bootcamp, Creative and Fotball).
These trips are mandatory (and included in the price given for that course).
Other classes have one of the 6 November trips as a part of class. (e.g Alpine adventure – Spain have the climping in Spain trip as a part of the main course.) This means that the Climbing Spain trip is recommended as a November choice for this class. But it is not mandatory. Students in this class could select one of the other November trips if they want to. The price for the November trips is given on the presentation page for that trip, and is not included in any main course price.
The learning Norwegian plus course have Norway as recommended trip, but you select whatever you want.
Alpine Adventure – Spain have Climbing Spain as recommended trip, but you select whatever you want.
(Obviously you can not follow both recommendations)
